Yes, I thought of BobbyCap when first reading this. :)
Meet the Horse Bettor Who Turned $3 into $60,232
Gregory McQueen, a 62-year-old from Tennessee, won $60,232 off a $3 bet at the Del Mar race track in California. He netted $45,752.95 after taxes were deducted. "It's a nice Christmas present," said McQueen. "Though I'm not spending it. It's going in savings."
Gregory McQueen had a message on his phone on Tuesday morning from an executive with Twin Spires, the wagering offshoot of Churchill Downs.
It was congratulating him on an unbelievable bet.
The problem was, McQueen actually had no clue what he had won.
“I watched the first race and then went out in the yard,” McQueen told The Action Network on Wednesday. “I usually watch the races later, but didn’t get to them. So I didn’t know what happened when the call came in.”
The 62-year-old retiree, who lives in Tennessee, spent $3 on the Pick 5, and nailed the winners of races five through nine on Sunday, the last day of the fall meet at Del Mar in California.
The bet returned $60,232, and netted McQueen $45,752.95 after taxes. (A new IRS rule states that the payer must deduct taxes on any bet that had odds of greater than 5000-1.)

Two nuns embezzled at least $500,000 from a Roman Catholic elementary school in southern California and used the money for vacations and casino gambling, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reports.
During the 10-year misappropriation, the school had been telling parents it was operating on a shoestring budget. Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper, principal of St. James School in Redondo Beach, and Sister Lana Chang, a teacher there, retired earlier this year. Monsignor Michael Meyers told a parish meeting Monday (Dec. 3) that the Archdiocese of Los Angeles launched an internal investigation six months ago after performing a standard audit of procedures ahead of Kreuper’s retirement. Kreuper acknowledged taking money, and both nuns expressed remorse, church officials said. The church will not ask the police to file criminal charges because the nuns' order, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, has agreed to reimburse the school and impose “severe sanctions” on the nuns, including removing them from ministry.

You probably heard that West Virginia quarterback Will Grier decided to sit out the Camping World Bowl in Orlando to prepare for his NFL career. Markets reacted immediately. Actually, markets were reacting before the formal announcement because that’s how markets work. West Virginia opened at -7.5 vs. Syracuse. They entered this week favored by just 1.5 points. The Over/Under dropped from 74 to 68. Replacement Jack Allison has thrown only 10 passes this season. Will those six point moves be enough?
Grier missed last year’s Heart of Dallas Bowl after a late season injury. The Mountaineers were 7-point underdogs to Utah, and were never competitive in a 30-14 loss (it was 30-6 until a garbage-time TD in the final two minutes).

San Antonio has calmed down from the bedlam and anarchy of that recent run. A 10-0-1 run to the Over was stopped dead in its tracks after the Lakers double dip by Unders vs. Utah (landing on 207 against a 218) and Phoenix (landing on 197 against a 217).
There was no way a Gregg Popovich coached team was going to play horrible defense forever. For now, let’s assume San Antonio has its head back on straight. Good test for the Spurs against the LA Clippers Thursday night.
