NFL notebook: Brady's appeal denied; suspension stands
By The Sports Xchange
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has denied an appeal by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to rehear his four-game suspension case over Deflategate.
Brady and the NFL Players Association were asking for the full appeals court panel of judges to hear the case but it was rejected in a one-sentence decision issued Wednesday.
The 2nd Circuit's 13 active judges found insufficient grounds to reconsider a three-judge panel's ruling in the NFL's favor.
The denial means Brady is increasingly likely to miss the first four games of the 2016 season.
Brady's remaining hope is to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
--The NFL will not take any action against Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy for his role in a February nightclub fight, according to reports.
On April 4, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced there was "insufficient evidence" to charge McCoy, his friends or the off-duty officers involved in the Feb. 7 incident.
McCoy and three friends were investigated after a fight with the off-duty police officers took place around 2:45 a.m. ET at the Recess Lounge in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood.
--The Cleveland Browns confirmed that defensive end Desmond Bryant will likely miss the 2016 season with a torn pectoral muscle.
The team said Bryant underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn pectoral muscle that was sustained during a workout last week. The injury reportedly occurred while he was lifting weights.
A full recovery is expected but Bryant will miss a significant amount of time and will unlikely be able to return during the 2016 season, the team announced.
--The Pittsburgh Steelers will honor former linebacker and 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Greene with a special ring ceremony in Week 4.
The Steelers announced that the honor will take place during the team's "Sunday Night Football" game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 2.
-- The 2016 supplemental draft will be held at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, with NFL teams evaluating whether to sacrifice a selection in next spring's draft for any of the prospects.
