The blue bloods have reloaded. New contenders are rising. More talented freshmen are ready to shine.
The college basketball season is upon us and this one, as always seems to be the case, is loaded with intrigue.
To get you ready, we've got a rundown of the top teams and players, best games and a whole lot more:
TOP TEAMS
Maryland. Melo Trimble and the loaded Terps are eyeing Maryland's first NCAA title since 2002.
Kentucky. Another year, another loaded freshman class.
North Carolina. The Tar Heels were the preseason No. 1 in the AP poll for a record ninth time. They might have a hard time staying there with senior guard Marcus Paige out three to four weeks with a broken hand, but watch out once he's healthy.
Kansas. Mix of experienced players, talented freshmen has the Jayhawks thinking big.
Duke. The defending national champions have reloaded and are ready for another deep run.
Virginia. Never count out a team that plays D like the Cavaliers.
TOP PLAYERS
Ben Simmons, F, LSU. Top recruit coming out of high school could be the top player in college basketball by season's end.
Paige, G, North Carolina. At his best in the clutch, will be looking to make up for lost time
No. 3 Maryland at No. 1 North Carolina, Dec. 1. If Paige is back in time, this matchup of former ACC rivals could be epic. Should be good anyway.
No. 2 Kentucky vs. No. 5 Duke, Nov. 17. A meeting that could be the preview for the 2016 national championship game.
No. 4 Kansas vs. No. 13 Michigan State, Nov. 17. Going to be some double feature at the United Center in Chicago.
No. 11 Villanova at No. 6 Virginia, Dec. 19. The battle between Villanova's shooters against Virginia's defenders should be fun to watch.
No. 12 Arizona at No. 9 Gonzaga, Dec. 5. Could be the best game out West all season.
Louisville at No. 2 Kentucky, Dec. 26. Almost not worth mentioning - a given to be a top game every year.
UNDER THE RADAR PLAYERS
Kyle Collinsworth, G, BYU. One of the nation's top all-around players probably doesn't get the credit he deserves from playing out West.
E.C. Matthews, G, Rhode Island. One of the nation's best shooting guards averaged nearly 17 points per game last season.
DeAndre Bembry, G/F, St. Joseph's. Could end up being an NBA first rounder after strong sophomore caught scouts' attention.
AJ English, G, Iona. Was the only player in the nation to average 20 points, five assists and five rebounds last season.
Craig Bradshaw, G, Belmont. Made a name for himself against Virginia in the NCAA Tournament. Expect to hear from him some more.
NEW COACHES
Shaka Smart, Texas. Havoc in the Hill Country. Should be fun.
Bobby Hurley, Arizona State. Former Duke point guard has added some buzz to the Sun Devils after successful run at Buffalo.
Rick Barnes, Tennessee. Took about 10 seconds for the Vols to snap him up after firing from Texas.
Ben Howland, Mississippi State. He'll have his work cut out for him with the Bulldogs, but already has successful turnarounds at Pittsburgh and UCLA on his resume.
Chris Mullin, St. John's. Best player in school history tries to get the program back on track.
Avery Johnson, Alabama. Former NBA point guard and coach stirring up plenty of excitement in Tuscaloosa.
NUMBERS
8-1-Odds for Kentucky to win the national championship, according to Vegasinsider.com. Duke is second at 17-2.
2-Times North Carolina has been ranked No. 1 in the preseason and won the national title, in 1982 and 2009.
11-Straight Big 12 titles by Kansas.
22.2-Points per game by Northwestern State's Zeek Woodley, Division I's top returning scorer.
30-Seconds of the new shot clock, a rule change expected to spur scoring and speed up the game.
1,018-Career victories by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, most all-time.
CONTENDERS FUTURE ODDS
Kentucky 8/1 Duke 17/2 Maryland 9/1 North Carolina 10/1 Virginia 12/1 Kansas 14/1 Michigan State 18/1 Arizona 25/1 California 25/1 Gonzaga 25/1 U Conn 25/1 Villanova 25/1 Iowa St 28/1 Wichita St 28/1 Indiana 40/1 Michigan 40/1 Oklahoma 40/1 Butler 50/1 LSU 50/1 Louisville 55/1 Texas 60/1 Florida State 70/1 Georgetown 70/1 Purdue 75/1 Notre Dame 85/1 Utah 85/1 Wisconsin 85/1 NC State 90/1 Baylor 100/1 Syracuse 100/1 Cincinnati 110/1 Dayton 110/1 Florida 110/1 Miami, Fl. 110/1 Ohio State 110/1 Oregon 110/1 Providence 110/1 San Diego St 110/1 Texas A&M 110/1 UCLA 110/1 Vanderbilt 110/1 West Virginia 110/1

College basketball: The AP releases preseason All-American team
Seniors Kyle Wiltjer of Gonzaga, Georges Niang of Iowa State and Buddy Hield of Oklahoma have been selected to The Associated Press preseason All-American team.
Junior Kris Dunn of Providence and freshman Ben Simmons of LSU round out the team released Monday.
Wiltjer, who averaged 16.7 points and 6.0 rebounds last season, was the leading vote-getter, receiving 51 votes from the 65-member national media panel.
Niang averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Cyclones last season. Dunn averaged 15.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.7 steals while Hield averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Sooners.
This is the third straight preseason All-America team to have a freshman on it. Simmons, a 6-foot-10 native of Australia, is considered by many the top recruit in the country. He had averages of 28.0 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a high school senior in Florida.

Division II Augustana (S.D.) upsets Iowa on buzzer beater in exhibition game
Another exhibition game ended with a shocking upset as Division II program Augustana (S.D.) defeated Iowa on Friday night.
Daniel Jansen made an incredible contested shot at the buzzer to give his team the 76-74 win.
It's fitting that Jansen made the game-winning shot for Augustana. The senior forward grew up in Orange City, Iowa and played AAU basketball with a few Hawkeye players.
The win for the Vikings, who were named the preseason No. 1 in the DII coaches poll, is the second time in this week alone that a DII program has stunned a DI program. St. Thomas Aquinas cruised past St. John's on Wednesday night.
No doubt the wins for both programs will give the players a boost of confidence before the regular season starts on Nov. 13.

Division II St. Thomas Aquinas shocks St. John's 90-58 in exhibition
Chris Mullin opened his coaching career at St. John's with an embarrassing 90-58 exhibition loss to Division II St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday night.
Justin Reyes had 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Spartans, and Chaz Walter added 18 points.
Federico Mussini led St. John's with 16 points. The Red Storm shot 36.7 percent and had 27 turnovers.
"You have to give the other team a lot of credit," Mullin said. "They played hard, they played together and aggressive. This will be a tremendous teaching tool. A lot of our guys have not played in a college basketball game and we tried to emulate that in practice and the scrimmage, but it's different. We have to learn from this."
Mullin is in his first season as a coach. The Hall of Famer starred for St. John's and the Golden State Warriors and was part of the original Dream Team.
