Trio of Thanksgiving Day games highlight card
Week 12 kicks off with a trio of Thanksgiving Day games when the Eagles take on Turkey Day vets the Lions. The unbeaten Panthers see action in the late-afternoon contest, and are short-priced dogs to the resurgent Cowboys, who welcomed QB Tony Romo back this weekend with a win. One of the NFL's oldest rivalries, the Bears at Packers, clash in the nightcap.
Here are the early betting lines for the week’s slate. Point spreads are the Las Vegas consensus on Sunday night, and totals are from offshore shops.
Thursday, Nov. 26
Eagles (-1, 46) at Lions
The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened the contest a pick 'em. Within the first 30 minutes of trading, the line shifted to -1 in favor of the Eagles, pushed back to even, and returned to -1.
After an embarrassing 45-17 loss to the Bucs in Philly, Chip Kelly's squad is now 4-6 SU and ATS, having kicked off the favorite in all but one game (Jets).
Panthers at Cowboys (-2.5, 46.5)
Dallas' 24-14 win over the Dolphins in Miami snapped a seven-game skid. Has Romo's return sparked a Cowboys renaissance? We'll find out on Turkey Day when the Cowboys host the 10-0 Panthers.
The SuperBook opened Dallas a 2.5-point favorite. The South Point and William Hill outlets are dealing -1.5 for Jerry Jones' team.
It's hard to believe an undefeated team so late in the season is getting points to a 3-7 outfit, but the 'Boys are a different bunch with their franchise QB healthy, having gone 15-2 SU and 12-5 ATS in his last 17 regular-season starts.
Bears at Packers (-8.5, 48)
The Pack is back in the win column and atop the NFC North after dropping the Vikings 30-13 in Minnesota. Aaron Rodgers and company are a consensus 8.5-point favorite to best Chicago. The Westgate initially offered -7 and adjusted to -8 within minutes of trading. In anticipation of the move, The Wynn, William Hill and other shops all opened at -8.5.
Rodgers has owned the Windy City franchise, going 13-3 SU and ATS as a starter.
Sunday, Nov. 29
Raiders (-2, 44) at Titans
The Silver and Black are chalk for the third game in a row, a first since 2011.
After a promising start against the number to begin the year, the Titans have covered the spread in just one of their past four games.
Bills at Chiefs (-4)
The Chiefs opened as 3.5-point favorites at Westgate, but are seeing -4 at the majority of windows.
K.C. is 4-0 SU and ATS in its past four games after starting the year 1-5 for both.
Buccaneers at Colts (-3, 46.5)
The Colts opened as 3-point favorites across Vegas with the hook available at The Wynn. Indy is now 3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS with Matt Hasselbeck under center after orchestrating a 24-21 comeback win over the Falcons.
Giants (-2, 46.5) at Redskins
Bet shops are opening -1.5 and -2.5 in favor of the Giants with little tweaking of the number by time of publication. New York is 5-0 SU and ATS in the last five meetings, kicking off chalk in three of the contests.
Saints at Texans (-3, 48)
Oddsmakers are opening the Texans as 3-point favorites across Vegas. Treasure Island is the only sports book dealing -2.5 for the early birds looking to buy in under the key number.
Vikings at Falcons (-2.5, 46)
Atlanta has dropped three games in a row and has lost six straight against the number, but are still the slight favorites over the 7-3 Vikings at the always-intimidating Georgia Dome. The opening line is mixed with the SuperBook and William Hill dealing -2.5 and The Wynn offering -1.5. Falcon backers will need to keep an eye out on the health of RB Devonta Freeman who was knocked out of the Colts contest with a concussion.
Rams at Bengals (-7.5)
The SuperBook opened the Bengals as 7.5-point favorites. Many offshore books have seen the half point taken up with the line sitting at -7.
Chargers at Jaguars (-3.5, 46.5)
Early betting action has been one-way in favor of the Jags since opening. The line has been bet down to -4 after an initial offering of -4.5 at the Westgate. The Wynn and Treasure Island are dealing -3.5.
Jacksonville has rewarded backers recently, covering the number in four-straight. The Chargers, meanwhile, are 3-7 ATS on the season after their 33-3 upending by the Chiefs this weekend.
Dolphins at Jets (-3.5, 42.5)
Perhaps the most volatile of the Week 13 contests in early wagering, this always-close AFC East clash is seeing the Jets dealt anywhere from 3-to-4.5 point favorites across Vegas. New York has covered the spread in the past four meetings, but was awarded points in all but one.
Cardinals(-8.5) at 49ers
The SuperBook opened Arizona as a 8.5-point favorite.
QB Blaine Gabbert played fairly well under center for the 49ers in their 29-13 loss to the Seahawks, tossing for 264 yards and 1 TD on 22-of-34 passing, but found it difficult to rally from an early 20-point deficit. He'll have to have a career-best to avenge the team's 47-7 dismantling by the Cards in Week 3.
Steelers at Seahawks (-4.5, 44.5)
Bettors are banking on the Jeckyll-and-Hyde Seahawks in early wagering action, with the line bet from -3.5 to -5.5 offshore since opening. A similar trend is occurring throughout Vegas with the spread adjusting to -4.5 from -3.5 at both the SuperBook and William Hill.
Patriots (-5.5) at Broncos
Brock Osweiler is expected to be under center for a second-straight game while future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning recovers from a partially torn plantar fascia. Despite securing a victory over the Bears in Chicago, he and the Broncos are 5.5-point underdogs to the undefeated Patriots. New England is 5-1 SU and ATS in the past six meetings.
Monday, Nov 30
Ravens at Browns (-1, 41)
The Ravens' 16-13 win over the Rams was a costly one. They lost both franchise QB Joe Flacco (knee) and staring RB Justin Forsette (arm) for the remainder of the season because of injuries. The betting market reacted promptly. The SuperBook opened the game a pick 'em and adjusted to -1 Cleveland's way. Offshore the line has moved as far as -1.5.
