NFL Week 16 daily fantasy buck
Quarterbacks
Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars ($8,200) vs. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers ($8,500)
Bortles has made leaps and bounds in his second season in the pros and was impressive in Jacksonville’s loss to Atlanta on Sunday, tossing for almost 300 yards and a touchdown while adding 44 yards and a score on the ground. Jacksonville takes on another NFC South opponent in Week 16, in the Saints. New Orleans is playing on a short week after the Monday nighter and has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing QBs this season.
Rodgers really hasn’t been himself all season. The deep ball isn’t there and the Packers offense has been stuck in mud for the most part. He managed only 11.06 points against the Raiders on Sunday and has topped 20 DFS points only once in his last five games. The Packers travel West for the second straight week to play Arizona and one of the stingiest secondaries in the NFL.
Buy: Bortles
Running backs
Darren McFadden, Dallas Cowboys ($7,000) vs. Matt Forte, Chicago Bears ($8,100)
With so many top-tier rushers banged up or out of action, there’s a significant price drop in the Week 15 RB ranks. McFadden is at the bottom of that drop, priced reasonably for the Cowboys’ matchup in Buffalo. He’s coming off a 100-yard game and has been among the NFL’s top rushers in the second half of the season. Dallas will give Kellen Moore the nod at QB after a promising showing against New York, which means plenty of running plays to protect the young passer.
Forte had a big day in Week 15, totaling 47 yards rushing with 57 yards receiving along with a touchdown catch against the Vikings, equalling more than 19 DFS points. The Bears take on the Buccaneers, who have a strong rushing defense. Tampa Bay has allowed just over 94 yards on the ground per game and has given up the ninth fewest fantasy points to running backs. The Bucs checked Todd Gurley to just 48 yards on 21 carries, but did allow a touchdown to the Rams’ rookie runner.
Buy: McFadden
Wide receivers
Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks ($7,700) vs. Sammy Watkins, Buffalo Bills ($7,700)
Baldwin has been a DFS monster in recent weeks, averaging almost 27 points over the last four games. He’s riding on Russell Wilson’s coattails but with the Seahawks locking up a Wild Card spot, they could be cautious with their remaining weapons, especially after losing RB Marshawn Lynch and TE Jimmy Graham. If the Seahawks get some distance between the Rams, expect Baldwin’s snaps to be limited.
Watkins is another receiver coming on late for DFS players. The Bills’ second-year WR has averaged nearly 23 DFS points in his past four games, including a 25.6-point effort against the Redskins Sunday. Watkins and the Bills take on a Cowboys secondary that was ripped for almost 300 yards by the Jets Ryan Fitzpatrick Saturday.
Buy: Watkins
