Top 25 Notes
-- It was another crazy weekend in college football, and we saw a whittling down of the unbeatens list. Texas Christian, Louisiana State, Memphis, Michigan State and Toledo each tasted defeat for the first time in 2015. TCU's 49-29 was the biggest shocked, as they were a 6 1/2-point favorite in Stillwater, but were playing from behind for the entire day. This game did feature a bad beat (see below) with the total. ... The marquee matchup of the week never really seemed to materialize, as Alabama kept Louisiana State at arm's length for most of the second half, all the while bottling up Heisman Trophy candidate Leonard Fournette in the process. A lot of eyebrows were raised when the Crimson Tide were penciled in at No. 4 in the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings, but the Tide showed they belong with the resounding victory over the Tigers, even if Alabama is just 3-5 ATS over their past eight. ... Sparty was dropped in Lincoln, as Nebraska struck for a 30-yard touchdown with just :17 left to shake up the playoff picture even further. The touchdown also changed the ATS result (see bad beats below)
- Clemson debuted at No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, and they backed up the standing atop the perch with a 23-13 win at home against Florida State. The Seminoles lost a second ACC for the second time since Oct. 24, going 1-2 SU in conference after their 29-game conference win streak. Despite the win, the Tigers are still a very ordinary 3-4 ATS in the past seven. The 'under' cashed for the first time in five games for Clemson.
-- Mississippi was dumped at home by Arkansas by a 53-52 score in overtime. While that sounds wild enough, words cannot explain how this game ended. A wild toss backward and a 31-yard gain for first down kept Arkansas alive and they went on to win and spoil Mississippi's chances of an SEC West championship. Arkansas has scored 50-plus points for the first time in 99 yards with the 'over' going 3-0 in the past three after a 5-0 under run.
-- Oklahoma continues to roll right along after their embarrassing Red River Rivalry setback against Texas. Since that upset the Sooners are 4-0 SU/ATS with the 'over' cashing in each of the four games. Next up will be a trip to Waco to take on Baylor Nov. 14.
Big Five Conference Report (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC)

Mid-Major Report
-- Navy went into Memphis and tossed a blockade on their Jan. 1 bowl game plans with a 45-20 win over the Tigers. The Midshipmen won for the third straight games, and they're now 6-2 ATS in eight games this season. -- Arkansas State pulled off the upset, 40-27 at Appalachian State despite being a 12 1/2-point underdog. The Mountaineers have failed to cover in two straight games for the first time this season. Ark State has now won five in a row, and they're 3-1 ATS over the past four with five straight overs.
Bad Beats
-- Northwestern drove down the field and kicked the game-winning field goal with :09 left to push the total over (41) in their 23-21 win over Penn State.
-- The TCU-OK State game had a total of (76), and it looked like the game would go well under. However, two touchdowns scored in the final 2:28, including a result-changing pick-six with :44 left changed an 'under' winner into a loser.
-- Michigan State side bettors looked to be in good shape for most of the game, especially into the second half. However, Nebraska wiped out a 12-point deficit in the final 1:47 for an improbable 39-38 victory.
-- Navy scored a touchdown with 3:20 to go to push the total 'over' (62.5), piling it on against Memphis in their first setback of the season. It was just the second 'over' in the past six games for the Middies.
-- Temple picked up a 60-40 win, but it was interesting how they came about covering the 13-point spread. Temple was covering 45-31 at Southern Methodist with 12:04 to go. However, a safety in their own end zone and a kickoff return cut the lead to five with 8:02 to go. Temple picked up the touchdown and two-point conversion at 1:45 to give bettors what looked to be a hard-earned push. But, a pick-six with :55 led to a backdoor cover, or a crushing SMU defeat depending on which side you were on.
