Three Clemson players will reportedly be suspended for failing a drug test before the Tigers' College Football Playoff semifinal against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl on Thursday.
According to ESPN Upstate in South Carolina and the Post and Courier, freshman wide receiver Deon Cain, senior kicker Ammon Lakip and junior tight end Jay Jay McCullough will all miss the Orange Bowl. The reports say that the three players' status for a potential trip to the national championship is unknown.
The biggest loss of the three is Cain, who was the Tigers' second-leading receiver on the season. Cain had 34 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns for Clemson. Cain will be replaced by senior Charone Peake, who had similar numbers with 40 catches for 563 yards and five touchdowns.
Lakip lost his starting job as kicker before the season and was suspended for three games after an arrest for cocaine possession. He was expected to handle kickoffs and extra points, which will now fall on field goal kicker Greg Heugel.
McCullough did not have a reception this season as a reserve tight end.
