My Dad's Friendship With Charles Barkley
December 14, 2018
Shirley Wang
When Charles Barkley's mother, Charcey Glenn, passed away in June 2015, Barkley's hometown of Leeds, Alabama, came to the funeral to pay respects. But there was also an unexpected guest.
Barkley’s friends couldn’t quite place him. He wasn’t a basketball player, he wasn’t a sports figure, and he wasn’t from Barkley’s hometown. Here’s what I can tell you about him: He wore striped, red polo shirts tucked into khaki shorts and got really excited about two-for-one deals. He was a commuter. He worked as a cat litter scientist in Muscatine, Iowa. In short, he was everyone’s suburban dad. More specifically, he was my dad.
An amazing story..

Great news, the Sugar House Casino in Philadelphia just opened its sportsbook (December 13), the same day Pittsburgh's River Casino opened its book.
The bad news, there will be a 36% tax imposed.
There are options for those who want to pay less tax or no tax at all. New Jersey imposes a 10.75% tax (13% if you do so online) while the offshore books do not impose any tax (they don't ask for a social security number either).
It's doubtful the majority of those placing bets in either casino realize the tax implications.

A follow up on the above...
An MGM bettor who had $180K at -900 on Rams moneyline Sunday night -- and lost -- came back Monday night with ~$120K spread over two money-line bets on Saints, at -260 and -270. Also had Saints -6 and Over 50.5, for $55K apiece. So the bettor won $47K on the money-line wagers, lost $110K on the Saints -6 and the Over 50.5 tickets. Meaning he's down $63K on MNF, and $243K over the past 24 hours.
